Global design contest 2020

Are you an emerging designer or established fashion label with a drive for designing out waste?

Applications are open for Red Carpet Green Dress Global Design contest 2020 in partnership with TENCEL™ Luxe. From Auckland to Amsterdam, the competition is open to any individual over the age of 21 with the contest aimed at highlighting the positive impact the fashion industry can have on society and the environment whilst supporting emerging talents. The concept for the contest was conceived in 2009 by Red Carpet Green Dress founder Suzy Amis Cameron whilst supporting her husband James Cameron on the press tour of his film 'Avatar'. Recognising the red carpet as a global opportunity to shine a light on sustainable fashion by encouraging designers to consider social impact along the supply chain and embrace an eco-friendly approach through designing out waste and choosing responsible fibres such as TENCEL™ Luxe.

The challenge posed to designers is to sketch an honourable red carpet gown or suit with consideration to reducing waste. Contestants are required to virtually select their material of choice from three TENCEL™ Luxe sustainable materials, which the winning design will be created from to be exhibited at the Red Carpet Green Dress Gala in Los Angeles. For each single entry Red Carpet Green Dress in partnership with TENCEL™ Luxe collects a small fee, with a percentage of the funds supporting and raising awareness of two social organisations that contribute to equitable garment worker rights.

Awaj Foundation based in Bangladesh assists garment workers and their families, through empowering and encouraging women to engage in leadership roles, as well as improve industrial relations for all.

The Fifth Pillar is a local Myanmar non-profit organisation composed of human rights lawyers working in cooperation with Fair Wear initiative to ensure garment worker rights are respected without discrimination.
