Fashioned from Nature - V&A, London.

An incredible exhibition curated by Edwina Ehrman for the V&A that explores the complex relationship between fashion and nature from 1600 to the present day. On all the way through until 2019, this is a must see exhibit for anyone who loves fashion and is on the path to a more sustainable future.

"Everything we wear, from clothes and accessories to jewellery, is 'fashioned' from matter found in the world around us, in raw materials of which they are made, in the energy used to produce and transport them and often in their design inspiration. We express ourselves through our appearance and enjoy fashion or its novelty, variety and creativity. Yet, fashion's demands threaten the environment and endanger flora, fauna and human comminuites, an issue of considerable concern in the twenty-first century as the industry has become increasingly global. The challenge of reducing fashion's consumption of the earth's natural resources is at the heart of this exhibition and the Fashioned by Nature book.

Fashioned from nature examines how we have arrived at the point and introduces some of the solutions being developed today to minimise fashions impact. It also draws attention to the consumer's role in the fashion cycle and the part that we can all play in developing systems and strategies that respect and protect the natural world upon which all of the earth's inhabitants depend".
